House alteration at Newington
2002-2007Renovation of a listed Victorian villa, in 3 phases. The building had been converted into offices, and in the process, the ground floor level stair, partition walls, plaster mouldings and cornices had been stripped out, and a steel frame inserted to carry the upper floor. Our brief was to return the building to being a family house. The main rooms at first and basement levels were retained and upgraded, while at the ground floor, a series of doors and full-height sliding and hinged timber partitions allowed the space to be closed down into separate rooms or opened into one open plan area. Strong colours give each of the spaces an individual identity even when the partitions are open.
