Shinkenchiku house competition

1989

Entry for a Shinkenchiku residential competition for a theoretical house. The form of the building responds to its location, set on a hill overlooking Edinburgh. Routes leading to and within the house are either opened up to take advantage of the available views back down over the city, or closed to allow privacy to the main rooms. The hallway acts as a link through the house, widening and constricting as relevant to lead through the house and give prominence to the main and public rooms. The family rooms are set on a lower level to maximise privacy for the residents.
